Exxon seeks Trump waiver to do business with Russia. Rachel Maddow’s response is PRICELESS.

Rachel Maddow just directly mocked Exxon Mobil for trying to cash in on its former CEO’s new position as Secretary of State, also sending a link to a Wall Street Journal report about how the corporation is asking the United States for special treatment.

Exxon is seeking permission to drill in the Black Sea, despite US implementing sanctions which were enacted after Russia annexed Ukraine.

This request for exception to American foreign policy is likely to intensify criticism of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who was Exxon’s CEO before his current position.

As Exxon’s CEO, Tillerson forged close ties with Russia, even being given Russia’s Order of Friendship award by President Vladimir Putin himself.

Maddow and other critics of Trump have often accused Tillerson of having conflicts of interest between his company’s relationship with Russia and the best interest of the American people.

Maddow in particular has been vigilantly tracking suspicious connections between the Trump administration and Russia, dedicating 53% of her air time of the last 6 weeks to chasing down Russian connections.

According to a State Department official, Tillerson is recusing himself from all matters involving Exxon during his first two years as Secretary of State.
